7/7 PK Update!

Hope y'all are keeping as cool as possible in this lengthy heat wave...that said....

Things are heating up in a good way at PK!

~ The skate park is being re-surfaced! Once all bids are in the Village will know when the re-surfacing will be. We will keep tabs on this and let you know when the painting of the ramps and trash/recycle bins will commence! Who wants to be on the paint team?

~  Innis is working on the design for the permaculture garden which we look to position behind our existing park. Once her proposal is complete we can take it before the Village Board for approval.
.....NOTE: a very, very generous gift of the wood needed for the garden is being donated by New York Heartwoods! Thank you, Megan and Dave - you are a treasure! Their link is below, check them out!

~ We are now working with the Veterans as we met with Joe Lawler at the last Village Board meeting. By 'working with' I mean that we will be having a core group meeting with him to show and tell all our hopes for the garden and the park - in hopes they will be as excited as we are to see it come to fruition!
.....NOTE: Veteran's Memorial Park is deeded to the Veterans, not the Village, so although we need Village approval to do things there, it is most important to have the go-ahead from the Veterans. This park is a memorial to those who served and sacrificed for our country and we at PK respect that and want to bring new and more opportunity for our community to experience the park and be reminded of our Vets and all they have given.

~ PK plans some art projects for the skate park! We would like to do some murals on plywood - one a Veteran's tribute, one a tribute to our skaters who are now skating the big park in the great beyond...and maybe a third yet to be determined. These would hang on the fencing at the park. Date for these murals to be determined. We will also be discussing this with our Veterans.

~ Bill Lindberg (Parks and Recreation) sees the new skate park project as a 5 year planned project. The project will be broken down into phases as Jon, Joe and Bill and our skaters will work will Bill to structure these phases. We can start fundraising! Keith has been collecting helpful info for grants and fundraising. We would like to put together a fundraising team - who wants in?

~ PK has been asked to connect creatively with WVCC - Cheryl Fox contacted us about WVCC's Youth Leadership Academy Summer Program. A few of us did some photography/poetry/collage with this group last summer in honor of Ian Sharp. We would like to volunteer again this year and welcome anyone who has a creative experience they would like to impart. Contact me - donnamarieh@hotmail.com  - if you would like details. The program begins tomorrow (Monday 7/8) and runs M-F until 8/2, from 9:30am. until 3:00pm. The best days to volunteer are Mon-Thurs. The best time slots would be morning or afternoons for any creative endeavor that could take 2 hrs. Email me if you are interested.
